Choosing Light ...

"People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the
sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed
only if there is a light from within." ~ Elizabeth Kubler Ross

When Light is contained within the essence of our Beings, it reflects and shines outward and makes our face somehow appear lighter, brighter. Our eyes seem to sparkle and dance, and our Being is light and airy. We smile easier, we love easier. Our words are filled with caring, kindness, love. We don't hesitate to help those around us without expecting anything in return. We simply strive to be the best we can be.
Alternatively, when darkness surrounds us, and penetrates our Life, we feel heavy, morose, sad. We use sarcasm as though it is our last breath, or second language, because with it we can infiltrate our enemies boundaries insidiously, completely. Sarcasm is our only coping mechanism, our only defense in a world gone mad.
Sarcasm, when used without humor, is the epitome of anger and hatefulness disguised in benignness. Words of sarcasm fall heavily on your enenmies ears and hearts. Sarcastic words can be the undoing of a sensitive Soul.
How do we prevent ourselves from being caught up in darkness? We choose to stand in the Light ... we choose to say only things that will make others feel important, good. We choose to be loving, kind.
Some of us are hesitant to be nice, kind, loving. We have been burned too many times, taken advantage of numerous times when we were 'nice' and that is not going to happen again! Some of us have been hurt so many times that we retaliate even before someone strikes out at us.
It's okay to feel scared. It's okay to feel vulnerable. We are human beings before we are anything else. It's only natural to be cautious in this world filled with chaos and the unknown. It's okay to be scared, but we need to push past the fear and step into the Light. We need to choose Light and Life. Let's all do it together ...!
Today, I choose to live in the Light and Love of humanity. I choose to allow myself to be transformed from the inside out with Divine Love and Energy. I choose to be kind, loving, and caring. I choose Life!

Healing the "Scars" of Life

"Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars." ~ Kahlil Gibran

"The most massive characters are seared with scars", Kahlil Gibran wrote. What, exactly, is a scar? The dictionary states a scar is: "1 a mark left on the skin or within body tissue where a wound, burn, or sore has not healed quite completely and fibrous connective tissue has developed"

But the dictionary also provides a figurative alternative: "a lasting effect of grief, fear, or other emotion left on a person's character by a traumatic experience"

It is an unavoidable fact of Life that each and every one of us will experience or has experienced one or more traumatic events at some point or another. And for some of us the word "trauma" is absolutely no stranger within our existence.

Some of us were born into trauma, like the infant who suffers from shaken baby syndrome, or the child with cigarette burns marring her tender skin, or the toddler with the greenstick fracture of his femur. Others have merely been "in the wrong place at the wrong time", so to speak, like the people in Indonesia when the 2006 day after Christmas tsunami struck, or the families who lost everything in the wake of Katrina. No matter what the trauma, or where or whom it strikes, none of us can avoid a traumatic event over the course of an entire lifetime. It is all in how we, as individuals, deal with the traumas of Life that is important.

The inevitable traumas of Life can teach us how to handle a traumatic event with ease and grace. We can choose to learn from each situation, or we can choose to avoid the residual emotions at all costs via denial. No situation presented in our lives comes without choices.

There are always  choices: a choice in how we handle the situation, a choice in whether or not we forgive, a choice in whether or not we forget and move forward. At times, a person finds him or herself in a situation in which he or she proclaims: "I have no choice!" Those four words are perhaps four of the most self-limiting words in the Universe! There is always a choice in any given situation.

Today, I choose to see all the options open to me in every situation. I pray for Divine guidance in choosing the appropriate actions, words, and thoughts. I choose to live my Life feeling happy, joyous, and free. I choose to share unconditional love, serenity, laughs, and kindness. I choose to be the wonderful, amazing, beautiful woman God created me to be. I choose to remember that it is none of my business who thinks negatively about me, because how one thinks about me has absolutely no impact on who I am.

The only person who has an impact on who I am is ME. I define my Self, and the Truth about who I am is within my Soul, and within the Mind of God. As someone so eloquently in history stated (I think it was the philosopher Rene Descartes): "I think, therefore, I am."

The Only Constant is Change

Most anything that is worth doing undoubtedly has some fear attached to it. Things like having a baby, getting married, changing careers—all of these life changes can bring up some deep fears. It helps to remember that this type of fear is good. It is your way of questioning whether you really want the new life these changes will bring. It is also a potent reminder that releasing and grieving the past is a very necessary part of moving into the new.

Fear has a way of throwing us off balance, making us feel uncertain and insecure, but it is not meant to discourage us. Its purpose is to notify us that we are at the edge of our comfort zone, poised in between the old life and a new one. Whenever we face our fear, we overcome an inner obstacle and move into new and life-enhancing territory, both inside and out. The more we learn to respect and even welcome fear, the more we will be able to hear its wisdom, wisdom that will let us know that the time has come to move forward, or not.

While comfort with fear is a contradiction in terms, we can learn to honor our fear, recognizing its arrival, listening to its intelligence, and respecting it as a harbinger of transformation. Indeed, it informs us that the change we are contemplating is significant, enabling us to approach it with the proper reverence. You might wish to converse with your fear, plumbing its depths for a greater understanding of the change you are making.

You could do this by sitting quietly in meditation and listening, or by journaling. Writing down whatever comes up—your worries, your sadness, your excitement, your hopes—is a great way to learn about yourself through the vehicle of fear and to remember that fear almost always comes alongside anything worth doing in your life.

The Processes of Life ...

We have all experienced challenging situations and know that it is sometimes difficult to maintain a positive attitude and a measure of faith when the going gets tough. This is partly because we tend to think that if God loves and supports us, we'll experience that love in the form of good positive things happening in our lives.

However, we are much like children, and the Universe is much like a wise Mother who knows what we need to thrive and grow, sometimes better than we know what we need ourselves. Just as a young child does not benefit from getting everything she wants, we do not benefit from our lives being all peaches and cream! In truth, we learn from times of constriction and difficulty which truly help us grow, if we choose to learn and grow from the difficult times. If we keep this in mind, and continue to trust that we are loved even when things are not going so well, it helps us bear the tough times with grace, ease, and a healthy perspective.

This period of time in history is chock full of difficulties for many of us, and we may feel less alone knowing that we're not being singled out when difficult situations arise in our lives. There are extreme energy changes pulsing through the Universe on many levels and naturally, we're all part of the growing process and the growing pains. It helps me to remember that Life is about constant change and the difficult times will inevitably give way to something new and different.

When I feel overwhelmed I know I can somewhat comfort myself with the wise saying: This too shall pass. At the same time, if I feel that nothing is going right for me, I know it's time to examine my Life and see if there are some changes I can make to alleviate some of the pressure. Honestly and compassionately exploring the areas giving me the most trouble may reveal some things I'm holding onto and need to release: unprocessed emotions, unresolved transitions, or negative ways of looking at myself or reality.

I always try to remember that each and every person in my Life is merely a mirror image of myself. I see in others what I see in myself ... As I learn to take responsibility for the things I can change, (myself!) I can more easily surrender to the things I can’t change (other people's behaviors, Life situations that I don't necessarily create, etc.) remembering all the while that this phase will, without a doubt, give way to another. As the old cliché goes: When one door closes, another one opens ...

Until next time, my friends,
Namasté.
